After 18 months of construction, Clapp Library re-opened on Tuesday, September 2nd! We hope you will visit the library to see all the changes that have been made to make it more comfortable and accessible to the community. We have some big new developments:

  • Main Entrance: New ramp for improved accessibility
  • First Floor:
    • Brand new Knapp Makerspace and Multimedia Center with fabrication tools and high-end computers with creative software
    • A new equipment check-out desk for Chromebooks, laptops, and Media equipment, like cameras and audio recording devices
    • A new café space (coming Spring 2026!)
    • Humanities Hub for student individual and collaborative research projects in LIB 181
  • Second Floor:
    • Redesigned service desk at the main entrance
    • Crozier Presidential Portrait Room restored to a Reading Room
    • New spaces for the Pforzheimer Learning and Teaching Center (PLTC) and Accessibility and Disability Resources (ADR)
  • Third Floor: Relocated LTS Helpdesk (Clapp 320) and staff offices
  • Fourth Floor: Major updates to Special Collections and Archives
  • Overall:
    • Increased study spaces throughout the library to accommodate more students.
    • All 4 floors of shelving now wheelchair accessible
    • Significant improvements to our physical systems (new HVAC, elevators, lighting, and much more!)
    • Lots of new furniture throughout, with more to come!

This renovation has been complex and some work will continue over the next few months, including new power outlets, lighting fixtures, additional furniture, and work on the new café. In the meantime, we are thrilled to welcome you into the new Clapp Library!
