Wellesley College Archives

Clapp Library is undergoing a major renovation from January 2024 until summer 2025. The Library will be closed during that time and most collections will be moved offsite. Archives staff can host class visits, student org visits, and campus researchers by appointment (archives@wellesley.edu). Archives staff are currently unable to provide research assistance, access, and reading room visits for external researchers. We will resume this service sometime after August 2025.

  • The Archives are open by appointment only. Email archives@wellesley.edu to arrange an appointment.
  • Faculty wishing to arrange class visits to the Archives should do so two weeks in advance (if at all possible).
  • Please note that any requests to the archives from the media will be sent to Wellesley College Media Relations at mediarelations@wellesley.edu prior to archives staff answering requests.

Mission

The Wellesley College Archives are open to all, regardless of affiliation. The Archives are responsible for managing, maintaining, and making accessible those records of the College that have long-term historical value, such as administrative records, manuscripts, photographs, maps, architectural plans, honors theses, and audio/video materials.

The Archives also collects materials from alumnae and others that help document and illustrate the history of Wellesley College, including scrapbooks, photographs, letters, and assorted realia and ephemera.
